What is the Maldives Ferry Tracker?
The Maldives Ferry Tracker is a free, interactive map that shows the live position of MTCC public ferries and commercial speedboat transfers across the Maldives in real time. Boats move along their actual scheduled routes, so you can see where a ferry is right now, when it will reach your island, and plan your journey between atolls.
What's covered?
- MTCC public ferries — the government-subsidised inter-atoll and intra-atoll ferry network serving all 20 atolls.
- Commercial speedboat transfers — private operators running scheduled services from Malé and the airport (Hulhumalé) to resort islands and guesthouse islands.
- Cargo ferries — freight movements between Malé, Gulhifalhu, and Thilafushi.

How does it work?
Boat positions are estimated from published schedules, not GPS-tracked. Each ferry's departure and arrival times are known from the operator's timetable; the tracker interpolates the boat's current position along its route based on the current time, so you see a realistic snapshot of where every ferry ought to be right now. Use the Time simulation control in the sidebar to scrub forward or backward and see where boats will be at any time of day.
How accurate is it?
Schedules are sourced from operator websites and official MTCC timetables. Real-world departures vary with sea state, weather, and demand — always confirm with the operator before travel. Where the operator publishes only departure times (common for speedboat resellers), arrival times are estimated from distance and a typical cruising speed. Route paths are manually curated to follow real navigable channels around reefs and islands, not straight lines over land.
Ferry port crowds
The crowd heatmap layer highlights ports where ferries are arriving or about to depart, so you can anticipate busy jetties (especially near Malé and the airport, where flight-arrival taxi demand peaks). Intensity is a heuristic based on vessel type and time-to-departure, not a real passenger count.
Privacy
The tracker does not track you and does not use cookies. It runs entirely in your browser — no account, no sign-in.
